Versailles baseball team loses at Russia

RUSSIA – The Versailles baseball team lost 8-4 at Russia on Friday.

Russia took an 8-0 lead in the game with one run in the first inning, two in the second, one in the fourth and four in the fifth. Versailles scored three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Russia out-hit Versailles 12 to 10 in the game. Both teams made one error.

Cole Niekamp went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run for Versailles. Kurtis Rutschilling was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run. Austin Knapke was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Jared Niekamp went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs. Keaton McEldowney was 1-for-4 with a run. Isaac Ruhenkamp went 1-for-3. Kyle Subler went 1-for-4.

Ruhenkamp pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and two unearned runs on six hits, no walks, one hit batter and two strikeouts. Cole Niekamp pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs and one unearned run on six hits, no walks, two hits batters and one strikeout. Collin Peters pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed no runs on no hits, one walk and one hit batter.

Versailles fell to 9-2 with the loss.
