Greenville softball team splits games with Edgewood, Waynesville

GREENVILLE – The Greenville softball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, losing to Edgewood and then defeating Waynesville.

Greenville lost the opener of the doubleheader 10-4 to Edgewood. Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but then Edgewood scored one in the second, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 5-1. Greenville scored two in the bottom of the fifth, Edgewood scored two in the top of the sixth, Greenville scored one in the bottom of the sixth, and Edgewood scored three in the seventh for the 10-4 final score.

Edgewood had 10 hits and two errors in the game while Greenville had seven hits and three errors.

Cassie Cromwell went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a RBI and a run for the Lady Wave. Logan Tabler was 1-for-3 with a double, a RBI and a run. Ashton Kester was 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Allison Minnich went 1-for-3, and Karsyn Shaffer was 1-for-4. Jazzlyn Petry drove in a run, and Alexis Byers scored a run.

Minnich pitched the complete game, allowing four earned runs and six unearned runs on 10 hits, no walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts.

After suffering the loss to Edgewood, Greenville bounced back and run ruled Waynesville 17-4 in five innings.

After Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Waynesville scored three runs in the second nand one in the third to lead 4-1. Greenville then exploded for nine runs in the third and seven in the fourth.

Greenville out-hit Waynesville 15-6 in the game. Both teams committed three errors.

Shaffer went 3-for-4 with a triple, five RBIs and three runs. Petry was 3-for-3 with a RBI. Tabler was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Cromwell was 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Sydney Grote was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Minnich was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Lani Shilt was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Kester was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Byers and Alyssa York both scored two runs while Madelyn Breig and Makayla Hanes both scored one run.

Grote pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs and two unearned runs on six hits, one walk and one strikeout. Minnich pitched a perfect inning in relief.

Greenville is now 11-4 overall.
