Versailles baseball team shuts out Marion Local

MARIA STEIN – Versailles shut out Marion Local 8-0 in a Midwest Athletic Conference baseball game on Tuesday in Maria Stein.

Versailles scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and two in the fifth while holding Marion scoreless the entire game.

Versailles had eight hits and one error. Marion Local had two hits and six errors.

Jared Niekamp was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Keaton McEldowney went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs. Collin Peters was 2-for-4, stole a base and scored a run.

Austin Knapke was 1-for-4 and drove in three runs. Brett McEldowney was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run. Cole Niekamp walked once, stole a base, scored a run and drove in a run. Kyle Subler walked once, stole two bases and scored a run. Jacob Heitkamp drove in a run.

Cole Niekamp earned the win as he pitched five innings, allowing no runs on one hit, no walks, two hit batters and six strikeouts. Knapke pitched one inning, allowing no runs on one hit, no walks and one hit batter. Peters pitched an inning and allowed no runs on no hits, no walks and one strikeout.

Versailles improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the MAC with the win. Marion Local fell to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.
