Versailles baseball team suffers its 1st MAC loss

VERSAILLES – The Versailles baseball team suffered its first Midwest Athletic Conference loss of the season on Monday, falling 7-2 to Fort Recovery.

Fort Recovery led throughout the game with one run in the first inning, one in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Versailles scored both of its runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Versailles had nine hits and two errors in the game. Fort Recovery had six hits and one error.

Kyle Subler went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Kurtis Rutschilling went 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Brett McEldowney was 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Keaton McEldowney was 1-for-3 and drew a walk. Jared Niekamp walked once and scored a run.

Cole Niekamp pitched six innings for Versailles, allowing four earned runs and one unearned run on four hits, one walk, three hit batters and six strikeouts. Adam Lyons pitched one inning and allowed two earned runs on two hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Versailles fell to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the MAC while Fort Recovery improved to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the MAC. With the loss Versailles dropped into a three-way tie for the league lead along with Coldwater and St. Henry.
