Versailles boys golf team wins MAC championship

VERSAILLES – Led by conference champion Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker, the Versailles boys golf team won the Midwest Athletic Conference championship on Saturday at Stillwater Valley Golf Club.

Versailles shot a 323 in the MAC tournament, winning the championship by three strokes over runner up Delphos St. John’s. Versailles and St. John’s entered the conference tournament tied in the league standings so Versailles won the 2016 MAC title by virtue of its tournament championship.

Litten-Stonebraker shot an 18-hole round of 74 to tie for tournament medalist honors along with Derek Klausing of St. John’s. Litten-Stonebraker also was named the MAC’s boys golfer of the year.

Versailles’ Alex Groff shot a 78 in the MAC tournament to finish third overall and Kyle Cotner shot an 83 to tie for sixth. Both Cotner and Groff earned first team all-MAC honors along with Litten-Stonebraker.

The Tigers’ Isaac Ruhenkamp shot an 88 during the MAC tournament and earned second team all-league recognition.

Versailles’ Austin Pleiman shot a 94 during Saturday’s tournament and Will Eversole shot a 100.

Following Versailles and St. John’s, St. Henry finished third in the MAC tournament with a 337. Minster was fourth with a 349, Fort Recovery finished fifth with a 380, Parkway was sixth with a 383, Coldwater was seventh with a 391, Marion Local placed eighth with a 393, New Knoxville was ninth with a 412, and New Bremen finished 10th with a 418.
