Franklin Monroe girls soccer team defeats Troy Christian 3-1

TROY – With a hat track from Bryanna Diceanu, the Franklin Monroe girls soccer team beat Troy Christian 3-1 on Tuesday night in Troy.

After having some struggles earlier in the season, Franklin Monroe played better on Tuesday than any other point this year, FM girls soccer coach Scott Howell said.

“Where we’ve been lacking in energy and heart, we really stepped up practice,” he said. “We’re going to push real hard. It’s our time. If we’re going to do something it’s time to do it now.”

Franklin Monroe found itself facing an early deficit as Troy Christian’s Lexi Salazar scored less than eight minutes into the game to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.

“Went down early but didn’t look at the scoreboard and had some fun,” Howell said.

Franklin Monroe was able to limit Troy Christian to just that one goal all night.

“Our defense is playing well, playing real well,” Howell said. “It’s nice that we can rotate a few kids in and out and give them a break.”

The Jets had some chances of their own early but weren’t able to finish.

“I kept thinking in the first half when we possessed the ball for about the last 12 or 15 minutes … I thought something was going to happen,” Howell said.

In the second half something did happen. With 11:19 left in the contest Diceanu scored her first of three goals to knot the score at 1-1.

“She’s got a lot of heart,” Howell said. “She’s playing really hard. She’s playing really well. I thought that (Chloe) Brumbaugh pass through for the first one was amazing, not like a freshman to do at all. Great pass. And then Bryanna’s just a senior; she’s expected to finish them, and she got it done.”

Just over two minutes after Diceanu tied the game, she gave Franklin Monroe the lead with her second goal of the night. And with just five seconds remaining, Diceanu scored her third goal on a long set piece for the 3-1 Lady Jet victory.

While the Franklin Monroe girls won at Troy Christian, the FM boys lost 1-0 to Troy Christian on Tuesday. The Eagles’ Jon Sloan scored the game’s lone goal in the first half.
