Versailles girls golf team finishes 8th at OHSAA state tournament

COLUMBUS – Versailles finished eighth in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II girls golf state tournament, tying its program and conference best mark in the state standings.

Versailles shot a 365 on the first day of the state tournament on Friday at The Ohio State University Gray Golf Course in Columbus to put the Lady Tigers in a tie for seventh place along with Waterford. The Tigers then shot a 376 on Saturday to finish the two-day tournament with a total score of 741.

Milan Edison won the state tournament with a two-day total of 661. Independence finished second with a 665, Shelby finished third with a 668, Milford Center Fairbanks finished fourth with a 696, Lodi Cloverleaf finished fifth with a 710, Chaminade Julienne finished sixth with a 718, and Waterford finished seventh with a 719. Following Versailles, Sugarcreek Garaway finished ninth with a 753, Poland Seminary finished 10th with a 758, Dayton Carroll finished 11th with a 763, and Toledo Ottawa Hills finished 12th with a 928.

Versailles’ eighth place finish was the second consecutive year that the Tigers finished eighth in the state. The Tigers did improve their score by 21 strokes from last year.

Versailles’ top finish at this year’s state tournament came from Lauren Durham, who shot an 18-hole round of 88 on Friday and a round of 89 on Saturday for a total score of 177, finishing 35th overall.

Lauren Heitkamp finished 42nd overall with a two-day score of 181, shooting an 88 on Friday and a 93 on Saturday.

Jorja Pothast shot a 90 on Friday and a 99 on Saturday for a total score of 189, finishing 50th overall.

Morgan Heitkamp finished 55th overall with a total score of 194, shooting a 99 on Friday and a 95 on Saturday. She hit a hole-in-one during Saturday’s competition.

Anna Groff shot a 112 on Friday and a 101 on Saturday for a two-day total of 213, finishing 68th overall.

Eaton’s Sarah Willis won the individual state championship with a total score of 136, shooting a 68 on both days. She set a state meet record with her total of 136.
