Football teams from CCC, GWOC and MAC advance to 2nd round of the OHSAA playoffs

COLUMBUS – One team from the Cross County Conference, four teams from the Greater Western Ohio Conference and five teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference began the Ohio High School Athletic Association football playoffs with wins.

The MAC went a perfect 5-0 in the first round of the playoffs on Friday and Saturday. Both the CCC and GWOC had half of their playoff-qualifying teams advance this past weekend, one from the CCC and four from the GWOC.

In Division I Region 3 top seeded Wayne from the GWOC began tournament play with a 52-7 victory against eighth seeded Lancaster. Wayne now advances to play fourth seeded Dublin Coffman at 7:30 p.m. Friday at London Bowlus Field.

In Division II Region 8 Troy from the GWOC beat eighth seeded Cincinnati Anderson 41-35 in the regional quarterfinals. Also in the region fourth seeded Miamisburg from the GWOC beat fifth seeded Kings Mills Kings 28-24 in the opening round. Troy and Miamisburg now will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Northmont Good Samaritan Stadium.

In Division III Region 12 seventh seeded Trotwood-Madison beat second seeded Wapakoneta 41-7 in the opening round of the playoffs. Trotwood now will play third seeded New Richmond at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mason Dwire Field at Atrium Stadium.

In Division V Region 20 Coldwater from the MAC beat Brookville 47-13 in the regional quarterfinals. Coldwater now will play sixth seeded Greeneview at 7 p.m. Saturday at Sidney Memorial Stadium.

In Division VI Region 24 top seeded Marion Local from the MAC beat West Liberty-Salem 34-7 in the first round of the playoffs. Also in the region fifth seeded St. Henry from the MAC beat fourth seeded Spencerville 37-22. Marion Local and St. Henry now will play each other in the regional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sidney Memorial Stadium.

In Division VII Region 28 Covington from the CCC began tournament play with a 49-0 win against eighth seeded Cincinnati Hillcrest. Also in the region fifth seeded Fort Recovery from the MAC beat fourth seeded Ada 58-21 in the first round of the playoffs. Covington and Fort Recovery now will play each other at 7 p.m. Saturday at Piqua Alexander Stadium.

Also in Region 28 third seeded Minster from the MAC beat Lehman Catholic 33-15 in regional quarterfinal action. Minster now advances to play seventh seeded Upper Scioto Valley at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wapakoneta Harmon Field.

Other teams from the CCC and GWOC ended their seasons with losses in the first round of playoff action.

In Division I Region 3 sixth seeded Springfield from the GWOC lost 35-14 to third seeded Pickerington Central in the first round of the playoffs.

In Division I Region 4 second seeded Lebanon from the GWOC lost 42-20 to Cincinnati Sycamore in the regional quarterfinals.

In Region 4 eighth seeded Springboro from the GWOC lost 35-14 to top seeded Colerain in the playoff’s first round.

In Division III Region 12 eighth seeded Tippecanoe from the GWOC lost 41-35 to top seeded Franklin in the first round of postseason play.

In Division VI Region 24 sixth seeded Miami East from the CCC lost 39-6 to third seeded Mechanicsburg in the opening round of postseason play.
