Versailles bowler Jamee Brown makes WOHSBC kickoff tournament semifinals

MINSTER – Bowlers from Mississinawa Valley and Versailles began the 2016 season with the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference kickoff tournament on Saturday at Community Lanes in Minster.

The top finish from a Darke County bowler in the singles tournament came from Versailles’ Jamee Brown, who made the top four in the girls tournament. The top finish from a Darke County boy was by Versailles’ Kyle Cotner, who finished fifth in the boys tournament.

The tournament began with each bowler rolling two games. After a cutoff, the top bowlers rolled a third game. Then the top four boys and girls bowlers following three games competed in bracketed championship play.

Brown rolled a 222 in game one and a 171 in game two to make the first cut down to 44 bowlers. She then rolled a 178 in game three for a three-game total of 571, finishing second to Lima Central Catholic’s Cecelia Riepenhoff and making the semifinals.

In the semifinals Brown lost by one pin, 179-178, to Celina’s Dorian Regedanz. Brown then lost in the consolation match to Wapakoneta’s Britni Hosterman 189-177.

Also in the girls tournament, Versailles’ Morgan Heitkamp finished fifth with a three-game series of 542, Mississinawa Valley’s Spencer Warren finished 23rd with a three-game series of 478, Versailles’ Makenzie Berning finished 24th with a three-game series of 477, Versailles’ Brigette Holsapple finished 34th with a three-game series of 449, and Versailles’ Jena Mangen finished 41st with a three-game series of 423.

Also, Versailles’ Morgan Barlage finished 45th with a two-game series of 274, Versailles’ Maggie Hedrick finished 46th with a two-game series of 272, Versailles’ Kalysta Thobe finished 60th with a two-game series of 257, and Versailles’ Lindsey Cheadle finished 77th with a two-game series of 224.

Lima Central Catholic’s Riepenhoff won the girls tournament, which included 84 bowlers, by defeating Celina’s Regedanz 265-179 in the championship match.

Coldwater’s Cory Whitace won the boys tournament, which included 89 bowlers, by defeating Wapakoneta’s Tyler Miller 214-190 in the championship match.

Versailles’ Cotner rolled a three-game series of 638 to finish fifth, just four pins out of semifinal-qualifying position.

Also in the boys tournament, Versailles’ Luke Shellhaas finished 41st with a three-game series of 498 and Mississinawa Valley’s Zac Longfellow finished 43rd with a three-game series of 493.

Other Darke County bowlers didn’t make the cutoff for the top 45. Versailles’ Alex Groff finished 46th with a two-game series of 335, Versailles’ Brandon Bradley finished 47th with a two-game series of 329, Versailles’ Jacob Wening finished 52nd with a two-game series of 326, Versailles’ Brody Hyre finished 61st with a two-game series of 317, and Versailles’ Aydan Moran finished 82nd with a two-game series of 261.

The WOHSBC will start its regular season on Saturday. The Ansonia and Mississinawa Valley boys and girls will compete at Astro Lanes in Wapakoneta while Versailles’ bowlers will compete at Community Lanes in Minster.
