8 boys return for the Versailles swim team

VERSAILLES – Ten boys make up the Versailles High School boys swim team for the 2016-17 season.

Eight of them are returning high school swimmers and two are new high school swimmers. Returning swimmers include senior Kyle Dapore; juniors Pete Barga, Adam Gehret, Mitchell Huelskamp, Clint Morgan and Nathanial Nelson; and sophomores Stuart Baltes and Cole Condon. New swimmers this year are juniors Jarrod Wagner and Noah Waymire.

Kyle Dapore is the lone senior swimmer this year. He finished strong last season and continued swimming this summer. Dapore will focus on the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events this year. Last year he received the all-Lima area honorable mention award.

Pete Barga, Adam Gehret, Mitchell Huelskamp, Clint Morgan and Nathanial Nelson are returning juniors this year. Barga will focus on the individual medley event this year along with freestyle and backstroke. Gehret improved tremendously last year and will focus on the freestyle and breaststroke events. Huelskamp also improved tremendously last year, and he also will focus on the freestyle and breaststroke events. Morgan will be a tough competitor in backstroke and freestyle. Last year, Morgan qualified to swim the 50 free and 100 free at districts, and he was on the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay that qualified for districts. In addition, he received the all-Lima area honors award. Nelson will focus on the freestyle sprint events along with backstroke and butterfly. Nelson finished strong last season and the Tigers are expecting him to improve even more this season.

Sophomores Stuart Baltes and Cole Condon will build on their successful season last year. Baltes will be one of our distance swimmers as his favorite event is the 500 yard freestyle. He also will swim backstroke along with other events. Condon will be a freestyle sprinter and also will swim butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke. Condon qualified for districts in the 100 free, 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay last year. In addition, he received the all-Lima area honorable mention award.

Jarrod Wagner and Noah Waymire are new to high school swimming this year. They will be strong in the freestyle events. The Tigers are in the process of determining what other events they will be focusing on. They are off to a great start and will improve throughout the season.

Versailles expects all of the swimmers to score points in meets and to continuously improve their personal times throughout this season.

Last year the boys team won the Coldwater Cavalier meet, the unofficial Midwest Athletic Conference meet. They also were undefeated in all dual and tri meets. The team is working hard as they want to win more meets this year.
