UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley eighth grade boys basketball team beat Newton, the defending Cross County Conference champion, 43-41 in double overtime on Monday.
Mississinawa led 10-9 through one quarter but trailed 21-16 at halftime. The Blackhawks cut their deficit to 26-25 in the third quarter and made it 30-30 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. After both teams scored six points in the first overtime period, MV outscored Newton 7-5 in the second overtime to win by two.
Leevi Ward led Mississinawa Valley with 19 points in the win. Also for the Blackhawks, Trey Godfrey scored 12 points, Wyatt Feltner scored five, Blayne Johnson scored five, and Caiden Beanblossom scored two.
