UNION CITY – The first couple minutes of the game between visiting the Tri-Village Lady Patriots at Mississinawa Valley was ice cold resembling the conditions outside.

But the Patriots would heat up after three minutes in, erasing the 2-0 lead they spotted the Blackhawks and going on a 10-0 run that prompted MV girls basketball coach John Hershey to call a timeout.

Tri-Village expanded its lead to 20-3 by the end of the first quarter. The Patriots put up another 20 points in the second quarter led by sophomore Emma Printz who knocked down five triples in the first half for 16 points including three treys in a row.

Mississinawa tried to keep it close with Mikayla Stump knocking down a three ball along with Kelsie Hunt, who went to work inside.

Kelsie Hunt would have a big third quarter inside as well and would lead the Blackhawks in scoring on the night with 16 points.

The Pats’ Allie Downing heated up in the third quarter as well as 15 of her game-high 24 points to lead all scorers, and the Patriots never looked back on their way to an 85-34 Cross County Conference victory.

Emma Printz would add 23 points and Danika Mann added 11 and Edie Morris 10 to help the cause.

Rachel Miller dished six assists and Downing had nine rebounds to lead in those categories.

Stump added nine points for the Blackhawks.
