PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Athletic Department will put on a Coaches vs. Cancer week during the week of Jan. 23.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that gives schools and communities an opportunity to raise money to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
During that week, Franklin Monroe will have a silent auction with sports related and autographed items from various athletes. Some of the items that will be included will be a football autographed by Troy Smith, Chris “Beanie” Wells and Randy Gradishar; a Columbus Blue Jackets jersey autographed by the entire Blue Jackets team; a Cleveland Cavs jersey signed by Iman Shumpert; a poster signed by Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski; a football autographed by Robert Griffin III and many more items.
This auction will open beginning Jan. 23 and ending the morning of Jan. 28 on the Franklin Monroe website. Final bids can be placed at the high school boys basketball game against Minster on Jan. 28. All money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society through Coaches vs. Cancer.
Franklin Monroe also will sell Coaches vs. Cancer T-shirts. The color options of the T-shirts coincide with the cancer awareness ribbons. Fans can select the color of T-shirt by the type of cancer you’d like to help end. All profits will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Franklin Monroe also will have a Wall of Hope at the boys basketball game on Jan. 28. Donations will be accepted, and fans will be given a donation card to write their name as a supporter or the name of someone who has battled cancer. All donations will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
