Greenville Elks host Hoop Shoot

GREENVILLE – The Greenville Elks Lodge 1139 held a free throw contest at Greenville High School on Sunday.

The contest was for youth ages 8 to 13 who each shot 25 shots. The program is free to all contestants from Darke County schools.

The winners and runner up in each age category received trophies respectively.

In the girls 8-9 division Ansonia’s Olivia Schmitmeyer was the winner and Arcanum’s Avery Leeper was the runner up.

In the girls 10-11 division Greenville’s Emma Erisman was the winner and Tri-Village’s Bella Black was the runner up.

In the girls 12-13 division Tri-Village’s Rylee Sagester was the winner and Tri-Village’s Morgan Hunt was the runner up.

In the boys 8-9 division Arcanum’s Regan Christ was the winner and Arcanum’s Cohen Etherington was the runner up.

In the boys 10-11 division Tri-Village’s Trey Sagester was the winner and Arcanum’s Brady Lock was the runner up.

In the boys 12-13 division Tri-Village’s Camden Cook was the winner and Tri-Village’s Seth Cook was the runner up.

Rylee Sagester was the top girl shooter for the day, making 19, and Regan Christ was the top boy shooter, making 21.

The winners at the local level will advance to district to be held at Wilmington College on Jan. 14. Winners will advance on to state then regional contests to reach the national finals in Springfield, Massachusetts. In the end, the six winners will be permanently inscribed at the Naismith Memorial.

The Elks membership thanked all contestants for participating and is looking for them to return next year. The Elks leadership also thanked the Elk members who help host the event that provides Darke County youth the opportunity to compete, connect and succeed through hard work and healthy competition.
