Versailles girls basketball team defeats Russia

VERSAILLES – In a battle of neighboring schools the Versailles girls basketball team beat Russia 56-46 on Saturday afternoon.

Versailles took a 19-12 first quarter lead and led 33-20 at halftime. The Tigers led 42-33 through three quarters on their way to a 10-point victory.

Danielle Winner led Versailles with a game-high 19 points. Also for the Lady Tigers, Kami McEldowney scored 15 points, Elizabeth Ording scored 6, Brynna Blakeley scored 5, Camille Watren scored 5, Clair Schmitmeyer scored 4, and Ellen Peters scored 2.

Laurissa Poling led Russia with 15 points. Also for the Raiders, Cameo Wilson scored 10 points, Tiffany Hatcher scored 7, Whitney Pleiman scored 6, Jenna Cordonnier scored 4, and Maria Herron scored 4.

Versailles improved to 13-1 with the win while Russia fell to 12-2. The Tigers will play at Tippecanoe on Monday.
