Versailles boys, 2 Mississinawa Valley individuals qualify for OHSAA bowling state tournament

BEAVERCREEK – The Versailles boys bowling team and two individuals from Mississinawa Valley qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state bowling tournament.

Bowlers from Mississinawa Valley and Versailles competed in the district tournament on Thursday at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek with spots at the state tournament at stake.

The Versailles boys finished second out of 16 teams in the district tournament with a score of 3,646 to qualify for state. The Tigers qualified for state along with district champion Urbana (3,926), Graham (3,495) and Emmanuel Christian (3,416).

Senior Alex Groff led the Versailles boys by finishing second overall with games of 221, 174 and 201 for a 596 series. He finished second to Urbana sophomore Andru Troyer, who won the district championship with a 651 series.

Versailles senior Jacob Wenig finished 24th overall with games of 178, 164 and 170 for a 512 series. Senior Kyle Cotner finished 40th with games of 151, 189 and 135 for a 475 series.

Versailles senior Aydan Moran rolled games of 166 and 182, senior Brody Hyre rolled a 171, and junior Luke Shellhaas rolled a 166.

Mississinawa Valley freshman Zac Longfellow finished ninth in the boys competition. He rolled games of 176, 215 and 154 for a 545 series, earning the final state qualifying-spot for an individual. Longfellow joined Southeastern senior Chad Sweeney (587), Kenton Ridge senior Cole Hunter (559) and Shawnee sophomore Jeffrey Isaacs (557) as state qualifiers.

Mississinawa Valley senior Spencer Warren finished third in the girls competition to qualify for state. She rolled games of 201, 220 and 163 for a 584 series to qualify for state along with Triad senior Madison Dolby (591) and Seven Hills junior Audrey Wilson (541). Warren finished behind Northwestern senior Ashlyn Stollings who won the district championship with a 605 series and Triad’s Dolby.

The Versailles girls finished sixth out of 16 teams with a score of 3,071. Northwestern (3,558), Mechanicsburg (3,329) and Kenton Ridge (3,260) were the state-qualifying teams.

Sophomore Morgan Heitkamp led the Versailles girls as she finished 10th overall with games of 154, 176 and 165 for a 495 series.

Versailles senior Brigette Holsapple finished 36th with games of 143, 136 and 146 for a 425 series. Junior Makenzie Berning rolled games of 163 and 163, and sophomore Morgan Barlage rolled games of 152 and 134.

The state qualifiers will compete at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus. Warren will bowl on March 3 while the boys will bowl on March 4.
