ARCANUM – The Arcanum-Butler Local School Board appointed Jason Schondelmyer as the new head football coach at the regular board meeting held on Thursday.
Schondelmyer is no stranger to Arcanum, having served in the same capacity from 1999-2005. During that time the program had a successful run, qualifying for the Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs in 2002 and 2005, including advancing to the second round in 2005.
While at Arcanum, Schondelmyer was named the Cross County Conference Coach of the Year twice, Miami Valley Coaches Association Division V Coach of the Year twice, Southwest District Division V Coach of the Year and Darke County Coach of the Year.
Following his time at Arcanum, Coach Schondelmyer spent time as head coach at Versailles, Twin Valley South and as an assistant at Kettering Alter and the University of Dayton before returning to Darke County to start the football program at Tri-Village.
Schondelmyer is a 1996 graduate of Wright State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in health/physical education. He received his master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Dayton in 2002.
“I am very honored to be given this opportunity to return to Arcanum,” Schondelmyer said. “I spent seven great years in the district to begin my career, and look forward to leading our football program back on the field. My wife, Amy, and I look forward to coming back and are excited to bring with us our two boys, Bryce (12) and Brody (9). They will be attending Arcanum in the fall and are very anxious to do so. I want to say thank you to the Arcanum school board and administration for giving me the possibility to return to the place where it all began. Go Trojans!”
