Versailles softball team defeats Miami East 31-1

CASSTOWN – Versailles’ softball team began the 2017 season with a 31-1 victory on Saturday at Miami East.

Miami East struck first with a run in the bottom half of the first inning. Versailles then scored six runs in the second inning, seven in the third and 18 in the fourth in a five-inning run rule.

Versailles had 17 hits and four errors in the game while Miami East had one hit and three errors.

Brynna Blakeley went 5-for-5 with a walk, four RBI and five runs. Hailey McEldowney was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, two walks, three runs and nine RBI. Kate Stammen was 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, two RBI and three runs. Hallie Mills was 2-for-4, hit a triple, was hit by a pitch, drove in two runs and scored five runs.

Kami McEldowney was 1-for-2, walked twice, stole a base, drove in a run and scored two runs. Cori Lawrence was 1-for-3 with a double and scored two runs. Caitlyn Luthman was 1-for-2, was hit by a pitch, scored two runs and drove in two runs. Mallory George walked three times, was hit by a pitch, stole two bases and scored three runs.

Sarah Gigandet was hit by three pitches, scored a run and drove in three runs. Caitlin McEldowney walked once, drove in a run and scored two runs. Anna Gehret walked once, stole three bases and scored a run. Faith Huddle walked once, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Makenzie Knore walked once and scored two runs.

Lawrence earned the win as she pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Makenzie Knore pitched two innings and struck out one.
