COLDWATER – The Bradford softball team started its season with a 5-3 victory on Saturday at Coldwater.

The teams were pretty evenly matched as both held each other scoreless through three innings.

The Cavilers were first to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff single followed up by a triple before Bradford’s sophomore starter Holly Rosengartner cooled the bats.

But the Railroaders came roaring back in the top of the fifth with a leadoff single from senior Tatyana Cotrell and a sac bunt by fellow senior Ally Booker before sophomore catcher Elisa Martinez doubled to tie the score up 1-1.

Later that inning junior Hannah Fout drew a walk for senior Olivia Hart to drive them both in on a two-run triple.

To wrap up the scoring, the Railroaders got a leadoff single by senior Amanda Brewer and sac bunts by senior Haley Rosengarten and Cotrell.

Also recording hits in the game were juniors Chelsea Gill and Fout and senior Ally Booker.

Holly Rosengarten got the win, pitching all seven innings, striking out two, giving up five hits and walking four.
