Versailles softball team defeats Franklin Monroe in 8 innings

PITSBURG – Versailles beat Franklin Monroe 3-1 in an eight-inning softball game on Monday.

Franklin Monroe scored first in Monday’s game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Versailles tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth and scored the night’s final two runs in the eighth inning.

Versailles had seven hits and two errors in the game while Franklin Monroe had six hits and one error.

Versailles’ Hailey McEldowney went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Kami McEldowney was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Mallory George was 1-for-1 with a double. Hallie Mills was 1-for-4 with a RBI for Versailles. Sarah Gigandet and Kate Stammen also had hits while Brynna Blakeley scored a run.

Franklin Monroe’s Chloe Peters went 2-for-3. Kinsey Goins was 1-for-4, stole a base and scored a run. Kennedy Morris was 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. Belle Cable and Emilee Morris also had hits.

Cori Lawrence pitched the complete game for Versailles to earn the win, allowing one unearned run on six hits, one walk and seven strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Emilee Morris was the losing pitcher for Franklin Monroe as she went 7 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. Cable pitched a 1/3 of an inning, retiring the only batter she faced.
