Versailles baseball team loses to Fort Recovery

VERSAILLES – Versailles suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling 7-4 to Fort Recovery in a non-conference baseball game.

Fort Recovery struck first with a run in the top half of the first inning, but Versailles scored three runs in the bottom half of the frame to lead 3-1. Fort Recovery tied the game with two runs in the third inning and went up 6-3 with three runs in the fourth. Both teams scored one run in the sixth inning for the 7-4 final score.

Fort Recovery out-hit Versailles seven to six in Tuesday’s game. Both teams committed one error.

Noah Richard went 2-for-4 for Versailles. Cole Niekamp was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Zach Griesdorn was 1-for-2 with a RBI.

Keaton McEldowney was 1-for-4 and scored a run. Noah Grisez was 1-for-4. Kyle Subler walked three times and scored a run. Austin Knapke walked twice and scored a run. Isaac Ruhenkamp walked and scored a run.

McEldowney was the losing pitcher as he went four innings, allowing five earned runs and one unearned run on six hits, two walks, one hit batter and six strikeouts. Griesdorn pitched three innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on one hit, two walks and four strikeouts.

Versailles fell to 4-1 with the loss.
