Franklin Monroe baseball team beats Arcanum 3-2

PITSBURG – Franklin Monroe edged Arcanum 3-2 in a Cross County Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

Arcanum took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning when Wade Meeks scored on an Evan Atchley single.

Franklin Monroe went up 2-1 with two runs in the second inning. The Jets’ Zach Cable and Levi Altic drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning then Logan Ressler drove in both with a two-out single.

Arcanum tied the game in the top of the sixth with a two-out double by Cambell Gostomsky followed by a RBI single by Caleb Shilt.

But in the bottom half of the inning Franklin Monroe scored the winning run. Cade McGlinch tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a two-out single by Altic, giving the Jets a 3-2 victory.

Arcanum out-hit Franklin Monroe six to four in the game. Both teams committed one error.

McGlinch was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run for Franklin Monroe. Altic was 1-for-2, walked once, scored a run and drove in a run. Ressler was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Timothy Lawson was 1-for-2. Cable walked and scored a run.

Arcanum’s Gostomsky was 2-for-3 with a double. Atchley and Shilt both went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Layne Byrne and Mitch Wogoman both were 1-for-3 with a double. Meeks walked, stole a base and scored a run. Austin Smith scored a run.

Filburn was the winning pitcher for Franklin Monroe as he pitched the complete game and allowed two earned runs on six hits, one walks and three strikeouts.

Atchley was tagged with the loss as he pitched the complete game for Arcanum, allowing three earned runs on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts.
