Bradford baseball team loses to Newton

BRADFORD – The Bradford baseball team lost 6-4 on Tuesday to Newton in a Cross County Conference baseball game.

Newton scored the game’s first run in the top half of the first inning then Bradford took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Newton regained the lead with four runs in the fourth inning.

Bradford scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 5-3 game, Newton scored its final run in the fifth inning, and Bradford added one more run in the seventh.

Bradford out-hit Newton eight to six. Both teams committed one error.

Parker Smith went 3-for-4 with a triple, a run and two RBI. Walker Branson was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Gaven Trevino was 1-for-1 with a double and scored a run.

Alex Swabb was 1-for-2, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Chase Gambill was 1-for-2 and walked once. Mason Justice was 1-for-4. Dillon Reck was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Bryson Canan drove in a run.

Smith pitched the complete game, allowing five earned runs and one unearned run on six hits, four walks, one hit batter and seven strikeouts.
