Versailles boys finish 2nd in season-opening tourney

MINSTER – The Versailles boys golf team began its season on Tuesday and finished second in New Bremen’s Cardinal Invitational at Arrowhead Golf Club.

Versailles shot a 329 and finished one stroke behind Russia for the team championship in the 13-team field. Wapakoneta finished third with a 333, Fort Loramie finished fourth with a 336, Anna finished fifth with a 347, St. Marys finished sixth with a 356, Lehman Catholic finished seventh with a 365, Jackson Center finished eighth with a 378, Minster finished ninth with a 383, Houston finished 10th with a 388, New Knoxville finished 11th with a 421, Botkins finished 12th with a 429, and New Bremen finished 13th with a 520.

Griffin Riegle led Versailles with an 18-hole round of 79. Also for the Tigers, Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker shot an 83, Jacob Watren shot an 83, Kyle Cotner shot an 84, Michael Hemmelgarn shot a 95, and Issac Ruhenkamp shot a 96.

Fort Loramie’s Brad Gottemoeller was the tournament medalist as he shot a 77.
