Tri-Village beats Bethel in back-and-forth baseball game

NEW MADISON – Tri-Village beat Bethel 10-9 in a Cross County Conference baseball game on Monday.

The game began on April 28 but was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the third with two outs and two on for Tri-Village. Bethel had scored two runs in the first inning and three in the third while Tri-Village scored one in the first to make it 5-1 in favor of the Bees.

Tri-Village quickly tied the score when the game resumed with a single by Mason Sullenbarger that drove in a run, a two-run single by Camren Munchel and a single by Trey Frech that drove in one and tied the game at 5-5.

From there it was back and forth. Bethel regained the lead with a run in the fourth inning then Tri-Village scored two in the bottom half of the frame to lead 7-6. Bethel scored two in the fifth inning and Tri-Village scored one to tie the game again at 8-8.

Bethel went up 9-8 in the sixth inning, but Tri-Village tied it back up in the bottom half of the inning when Jonny Wilson scored from second on a wild pitch with two outs

Bethel had a chance to take the lead in the eighth, but Gage Hileman made a nice play at third with two outs to strand a runner at third.

In the bottom of the eighth Christian Ricker led off by reaching base on an error. After Jackson Plush moved Ricker to third with a ground out, Bethel intentionally walked Wilson and Jared Buckley to load the bases. Luke Wheeler then hit a hard grounder, and Bethel couldn’t get the out at home as Ricker scored to give the Patriots a 10-9 win.

Tri-Village had nine hits and six errors, and Bethel had nine hits and three errors.

Wilson earned the win to improve to 5-2 on the year. He pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on two hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.

Ricker was 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs. Frech went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Wheeler was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Munchel went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Tri-Village improved to 15-5 overall and 6-5 in the CCC.
