COLDWATER – Kami McEldowney set three program records as the Versailles softball team beat Coldwater 12-8 in its season finale on Thursday.
To earn the win Versailles had to mount a comeback as Coldwater scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third to lead 5-0. After Versailles scored four runs in the top half of the fourth inning, Coldwater scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 8-4. Versailles then tied the game with four runs in the sixth inning and won it with four runs in the seventh.
Versailles had 21 hits and three errors while Coldwater had 10 hits and one error.
Caitlin McEldowney earned the win as she pitched the complete game, allowing six earned runs and two unearned runs on 10 hits, seven walks and three strikeouts.
Kami McEldowney went 4-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI and a run. Brynna Blakeley was 3-for-5 with two runs and a RBI. Mallory George was 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Caitlin McEldowney was 3-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run.
Kate Stammen went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a run and two RBI. Hailey McEldowney was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and four RBI. Sarah Kremer was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Sarah Gigandet was 1-for-4 and drove in a run. Anna Gehret was 1-for-4 and scored a run.
Kami McEldowney broke Versailles’ single season hits record with 52, breaking the previous record of 49 that was held by her sister Kayla McEldowney. She broke Versailles’ single season batting average record with a mark of .612, beating Kayla McEldowney’s previous record of .590. She also broke the doubles record with 20, beating Aimee Powell’s previous record of 17.
