DAYTON – Greenville’s AJ Frens and Ryan Trick finished first and second in the regional pole vault competition to qualify for the state track and field meet.
Competing in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I regional meet at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Frens won the boys pole vault competition by clearing 15 feet 8 inches. Trick finished as the runner-up to Frens by clearing 14 feet 8 inches.
Sierra Cress finished fifth in the girls discus throw with a throw of 116 feet 8 inches, finishing just one spot out of state-qualifying position. The Lady Wave junior also placed in the girls shot put, finishing seventh with a toss of 35 feet.
Meg Rehmert placed seventh in the girls pole vault by clearing 11 feet. Lexi Addington competed but didn’t clear the bar at the opening height of 9 feet 6 inches.
Isaiah Gable finished 10th in the boys high jump as he cleared 6 feet. He successfully made his first three jumps at 5 feet 8 inches, 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet before being knocked out at 6 feet 2 inches.
In the team standings Greenville’s boys finished 16th with 18 points while Greenville’s girls finished 20th with 8 points.
Frens and Trick now advance to compete in the OHSAA state track and field meet. They will compete at noon on June 3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.
