GREENVILLE – The Franklin Monroe boys basketball program extended its outreach to alumni and community members this year with a golf outing on Saturday at Turtle Creek Golf Course.
In past years the Franklin Monroe boys basketball team hosted an alumni basketball tournament to generate funding and promote its basketball program, specifically to alumni who share a piece of the program and school history.
This year the Jets hosted a golf outing to extend that reach to alumni and community members in an event more attractive to a wide range of ages and gender. A number of current and former Franklin Monroe boys basketball players were on hand to help run the event and interact with those playing.
A total of 18 teams participated in the golf outing. There was one women’s team, and 13 of the 18 teams had at least one Franklin Monroe graduate.
The tournament, which was played in a scramble format, had a low round of 59. The winning team was comprised of Brian Oswalt, Kevin O’Dell, Randy O’Dell and Chuck Bruner. The second place team, finishing with the round with a score of 60, included Gene Peters, Dennis Riesley, Pat O’Malley and Jim Hart.
In addition to the number of people who participated, each hole had its own sponsor as a result of local business extending their support.
“On behalf of the FM boys basketball staff and players we would simply like to say thank you to all who participated and supported this year’s event,” Franklin Monroe boys basketball coach Troy Myers said. “We look forward to continuing the event next year on the first Saturday in June.”
