Donny Schatz repeats as Kings Royal champion at Eldora Speedway

ROSSBURG – Donny Schatz won the 34th annual Kings Royal Saturday night at Eldora Speedway, becoming the first back-to-back champion in the event’s history.

Eldora had six heat races Saturday night of 10 laps each with the top three in each heat advancing. Then in the C feature, which was 10 laps, the top six advanced. The last chance show down, which was 12 laps, saw the top four advance to the feature, which was 40 laps.

For heat one the 15 of Donny Schatz took home first followed by the 81 of Lee Jacobs in second, third was the 24 of Rico Abreu, fourth was the O7 of Ryan Smith and fifth was the 41S of Dominic Scelzi.

In heat two seeing the checkered flag was the 49X of Tim Shaffer, second was the 10H of Chad Kemenah, third was the 9 of Daryn Pittman, fourth was the 2 of Shane Stewart and fifth was the 7S of Jason Sides.

The 93 of Sheldon Haudenschild won heat three and was followed by the 2M of Kerry Madsen in second, next was the 71 of Joey Saldana, fourth was the W20 of Greg Wilson and fifth was the 1ST of Gary Taylor.

Seeing the black and white checkered in heat four was the 17 of Jac Haudenschild, second was the 1S of Logan Schuchart, third was the 19 of Brent Marks, fourth was the 18 of Ian Madsen and fifth was the 41 of Jason Johnson.

The 49 of Brad Sweet took home first place in heat five followed by the 21 of Brian Brown in second, third was the 11K of Kraig Kinser, fourth was the 55XM of Dale Blaney and fifth was the A67 of Brandon Wimmer.

The 12N of Cole Duncan won the final heat race, in second was the 3H of James McFadden, third was the 39 of Sammy Swindell, fourth was the 5 of David Gravel and fifth was the 49D of Shawn Dancer.

For the C Feature the 13 of Clyde Knipp finished first, second was the 33M of Max Stambaugh, third was the 11N of Craig Mintz , fourth was the 7J of Joe Swanson, fifth was the 17M of Max McGhee and sixth was the 22M of Dan McCarron.

The last chance showdown black and white checkered winner was the 5 of David Gravel, second was the 2 of Shane Stewart, third was the 18 of Ian Madsen, fourth was the O7 of Ryan Smith and fifth was the W20 of Greg Wilson.

The feature saw the 15 of Donny Schatz taking home first place and $50,000, second was the 14 of Christopher Bell taking home $20,000, third was the 49 of Brad Sweet taking home $15,000, fourth was the 12N of Cole Duncan with $12,500 and fifth was the O7 of Ryan Smith taking home $10,000.

This wrapped up the 34th annual Kings Royal weekend with a record breaking crowd.
