Greenville girls golf team places 2nd in American North at GWOC preseason tournament

ARCANUM – Greenville’s girls finished eighth and the Green Wave boys finished 13th in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s preseason golf tournaments on Monday at Beechwood Golf Course.

The Greenville girls shot a 427 in the GWOC meet to tie Vandalia-Butler for eighth out of 12 teams.

In the American North standings, Greenville and Butler tied for second behind champion Tippecanoe with its 406 team score. Troy finished fourth with a 435, and Piqua finished fifth with a 464.

Junior Jada Garland led Greenville’s girls by placing 11th overall with an 89 for the 18-hole round. Garland finished one stroke behind Tippecanoe senior Taylor Hudson for the best individual score in the American North.

Also for the Greenville girls, Ashley Karns finished 32nd overall with a round of 104, Kylie Beam finished 52nd with a 114, Makenzi Glancy finished 58th with a 120, Madelyn Breig finished 59th with a 121, and Kourtney Kretschmar finished 61st with a 123.

Centerville senior Marissa Wenzler was the champion for the girls tournament, which included 74 golfers, as she shot an even-par 72. She helped guide the Elks to the championship with a team score of 306.

Greenville’s boys shot a 396 team score to place 13th out of 18 teams.

The Wave finished fifth in the American North standings, defeating sixth-place Piqua with its 457. Butler and Troy won the American North championship with a 324, Tippecanoe finished third with a 363, and Sidney finished fourth with a 379.

Andrew Kiryluk led the Greenville boys by shooting an 18-hole round of 93 and placing 51st overall. Also for the Green Wave, Connor Null finished 58th with a 95, Matt Hounshell finished 72nd with a 103, Clayton Klosterman finished 77th with a 105, Evan Saylor finished 81st with a 109, and Bryan Day finished 84th with a 113.

Springboro senior Jonathan Cloyd won the boys tournament, which included 105 golfers, with a 3-under par 69. Butler junior Austin Greaser, the top American North finisher, was second overall with a 1-under par 71.

Centerville won the boys championship with a team score of 305.
