ARCANUM – Arcanum High School senior Conner Pohl competed in baseball tournaments throughout the country this summer, including the Metropolitan Baseball Classic in New York.

“It was a good way to measure myself and where I’m at right now and how I need to get better for next year,” Pohl said.

Pohl, who was named the Cross County Conference baseball player of the year as a junior this past spring, played in regional tournaments in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky with the Dayton Classics.

He also played for Chandler World Baseball, a national travel team that includes players from Alabama, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

“It’s very exciting,” Pohl said. “Got to see a lot of states never seen before.”

Chandler World Baseball competed in a number of tournament across the country including in Atlanta, Phoenix and Fort Meyers, Florida, in addition to the Metropolitan Baseball Classic.

The Metropolitan Baseball Classic, which is hosted by the New York Mets, completed its third annual tournament last weekend in Long Island in New York. The eight-team tournament included some of the best travel teams in the country and was a showcase for college and professional scouts.

This is the first year Pohl played for a national traveling team, he said. Chandler World Baseball saw him when he played for the Dayton Classics during a tournament in Cincinnati, which led to an invitation to join the team.

In October, Pohl will travel to Jupiter, Florida, to compete in the Perfect Game World Championships. The 17th annual tournament, which is another showcase for college and professional scouts, will take place at the spring training fields of the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals.

Pohl said he’s looking forward to playing in another large tournament and getting more exposure in front of the scouts as he hopes to continue his baseball career in college and possibly professionally.
