Versailles boys golf places 2nd in home invitational

VERSAILLES – The Versailles boys golf team finished three strokes behind Russia for the championship of the 2015 Versailles Invitational on Saturday at Stillwater Valley Golf Club.

Russia won the invitational by shooting a 326 while host Versailles finished with a 329. Miami East finished third with a 331, Anna was fourth with a 338, Parkway was fifth with a 353, Lehman Catholic finished sixth with a 364, Tri-Village finished seventh with a 364, Franklin Monroe was eighth with a 369, Coldwater was ninth with a 370, St. Henry placed 10th with a 375, Marion Local was 11th with a 377, Covington finished 12th with a 386, National Trail was 13th with a 390, Minster was 14th with a 397, Milton-Union was 15th with a 408, Miami East 2 was 16th with a 441, Russia 2 was 17th with a 451, and New Bremen finished 18th with a 474. Bradford and a second Versailles team also competed but didn’t have enough golfers to record a team score.

Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker and Jacob Watren led Versailles with an 18-hole round of 79. Also for the Tigers, Kyle Cotner shot an 85, Griffen Riegle shot an 86, Michael Hemmelgarn shot an 88, and Connor Custenborder shot a 115.

Tyler VanWinkle led Tri-Village with a round of 87. Also for the Patriots, Brett Boyter shot a 90, Brandon Peters shot a 92, Luke Wheeler shot a 95, Gage Hileman shot a 96, and Knox Morris shot a 106.

Bradey Hesler led Franklin Monroe with a round of 84. Also for the Jets, Noah Koffer shot an 89, Jeremy Bridenbaugh shot a 94, Levi Altic shot a 102, Bryce Filbrun shot a 102, and Hunter Rich shot a 102.

Bradford’s Alex Swabb shot an 87.

Alec Ahrens led Versailles 2 with a 109. Also for the Tigers, Alex Keiser shot a 116, and Austin Pleiman shot a 124.

Miami East’s Kley Karadak was the medalist for the invitational as he shot a two-over-par 72. Versailles’ Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker, Russia’s Connor Monnin, Versailles’ Jacob Watren and Russia’s Zach Sherman all shot a 79 to tie for second.
