CASSTOWN – The Miami East football team is one step closer to both a Cross County Conference title and a home playoff berth with a 55-8 homecoming win over Bradford Friday.

With the win, Miami East improved to 6-1 (4-0 in the CCC) and remained the lone CCC team with an unblemished conference record. It was Miami East’s fifth win in a row. With the loss, Bradford fell to 0-6 (0-5).

The Vikings left no doubt about the result from the beginning with a 26-point first quarter and 49 unanswered points to start the game. Justin Brown put East on top by breaking a 38-yard touchdown run, then Vincent Villella scored on runs of 8 and 28 yards to make it 20-0. Jacob Brown added the first of his three touchdowns, a 26-yard run, to make it 26-0 after one quarter, and he scored on a 3-yard run in the second to make it 33-0 at halftime.

Miami East then scored a safety on the opening kickoff of the second half with Bradford’s returner taking the ball at the 10 and running backwards looking for room – only to be tackled in the end zone by Viking kicker Jonah Brautigam. Justin Brown then scored on a 2-yard run and Tyler Kirby followed his own 78-yard scramble with a 2-yard score to make it 49-0 after three.

The Railroaders finally got on the board in the fourth with Hunter Penkal scoring on a 25-yard run, but the Vikings answered with Jacob Brown’s third score of the night, an 8-yard run, to close things out.

Villella had 106 yards on 12 carries and Justin Brown had 98 yards on 11 carries, both with two touchdowns. Jacob Brown had 66 yards and three scores on seven carries, and Kirby had 102 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.

Miami East travels to Arcanum this coming Friday while Bradford hosts Covington.
