Versailles cross country runner Joe Spitzer wins his 3rd consecutive MAC championship

COLDWATER – Versailles’ Joe Spitzer won his third consecutive Midwest Athletic Conference cross country championship on Saturday in Coldwater.

Spitzer won the high school boys race, which included 134 runners, with a time of 15:54.42. The Versailles senior beat St. Henry’s Devin Huelskamp by more than 56 seconds for the conference championship.

As a team the Versailles boys finished third in the conference standings behind champion Minster and runner-up St. Henry. Parkway finished fourth, New Bremen finished fifth, Coldwater finished sixth, Marion Local finished seventh, Fort Recovery finished eighth, and New Knoxville finished ninth.

Following Spitzer, Versailles’ Brooks Blakeley finished 16th overall in 17:50.27, Matt Cromwell finished 21st in 18:35.12, Stuart Baltes finished 22nd in 18:35.50, Brian Heitkamp finished 29th in 18:45.12, Noah Barga finished 30th in 18:46.50, Ryan Subler finished 34th in 19:01.00, Jarrett Petitjean finished 41st in 19:16.02, Alex Brewer finished 46th in 19:19.74, CAden Schulze finished 52nd in 19:38.55, Logan Miller finished 53rd in 19:38.84, Adam Gehret finished 54th in 19:41.21, Andrew Cotner finished 61st in 20:05.34, Kyle Wuebker finished 62nd in 20:07.34, Alex Barga finished 63rd in 20:09.81, Xavier Grillot finished 72nd in 20:31.40, Jarret Barga finished 73rd in 20:33.40, Cody Williams finished 81st in 20:52.37, Ben Rose finished 83rd in 20:53.72, Owen Schultz finished 84th in 20:54.02, Don Juan finished 103rd in 22:28.71, Mitchell Huelskamp finished 104th in 22:29.12, Gavin Bolin finished 115th in 23:46.62, Janathan Nelson finished 119th in 24:00.21, Dylan Meyer finished 120th in 24:00.80, and Adam Cordonnier finished 132nd in 29:40.09.

Versailles’ girls finished fourth in the conference standings behind champion Minster, runner-up Coldwater and third place St. Henry. Marion Local finished fifth, Fort Recovery finished sixth, New Bremen finished seventh, Delphos St. John’s finished eighth, Parkway finished ninth, and New Knoxville finished 10th.

Kenia McEldowney led the Versailles girls by finishing 15th overall in 20:24.87. Minster’s Emma Watcke won the high school girls race, which included 167 runners, in a time of 18:48.78.
