COLUMBUS – Ansonia moved a step closer to a potentially qualifying for the Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs with its win last week at Twin Valley South.
With the win Ansonia climbed from No. 11 to No. 9 in the Division VII Region 28 computer rankings, which will be used to determine which football teams make the postseason following the conclusion of the regular season. Log on to the football page at OHSAA.org for an explanation of how the ratings are calculated.
Ansonia still trails Crestview, Lehman Catholic, Delphos St. John’s, Fort Loramie, Minster, Riverside, Lima Perry and Miami Valley Christian Academy in the Region 28 rankings. The top eight teams in each region at the end of the season will qualify for the playoffs.
According to Drew Pasteur at www.fantastic50.net, a website that tracks playoff scenarios, Ansonia has a 64 percent probability of qualifying for the playoffs. With a win this week against Tri-Village, the Tigers’ chances would increase to 73 percent.
Arcanum, Bradford, Greenville, Mississinawa Valley, Tri-Village and Versailles are not ranked in the top 12 of their regions. Thus they are out of playoff position and were not included in this week’s OHSAA computer ratings release.
