Ansonia football team wins at Bradford

BRADFORD – The Ansonia football team secured its first winnings season since 2011 with a 59-0 Cross County Conference victory over Bradford on Friday night.

Ansonia jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead with a 10-yard touchdown run by Brock Shellhaas, a 4-yard touchdown run by Cody Sanders and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Buckingham to Max Wardrip.

The Tigers added 22 points in the second quarter to go into halftime up 43-0. Devyn Sink ran for a 5-yard touchdown, Shellhaas ran for a 35-yard touchdown, and Shellhaas ran for a 7-yard touchdown in the period.

In the third quarter Shellhaas ran for a 23-yard touchdown – his fourth touchdown of the night – as Ansonia increased its lead to 51-0.

Ansonia capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter when Charles Murphy scored on a 28-yard touchdown run.

Jarvis Thwaits led Ansonia with 128 rushing yards on 13 carries. Shellhaas had 114 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries. Murphy ran five times for 68 yards and a touchdown, Sanders ran seven times for 51 yards and a score, and Sink ran four times for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Buckingham was 4-of-5 passing for 74 yards and a touchdown. Muir caught two passes for 44 yards. Wardrip had one catch for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Andrew Rowland led the Tiger defense with seven tackles including one for a loss.

Ansonia finished the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and 6-2 CCC record while Bradford finished 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the CCC.

Ansonia will continue the season on Friday in the Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs. The Tigers will travel to Convoy Crestview, the top-seeded team in the Division VII Region 28 standings.
