VERSAILLES – The Versailles High School boys swim team is looking forward to yet another great season in the water.
There are 14 high school boys swimming on the team with six new swimmers and eight returning from last year. Of the eight returning, six of the swimmers are seniors including Pete Barga, Adam Gehret, Mitchell Huelskamp, Clint Morgan, Nathaniel Nelson and Jarrod Wagner.
Versailles looks to be strong in freestyle and backstroke events this year.
The Tigers have strong leadership on the team with their six seniors. They look to build off the success from the previous years and strengthen the momentum they have in order to continue to build the swim program at Versailles.
Stuart Baltes and Cole Condon are the two juniors on the swim team this year. Both swimmers competed strong for the team last year and were big for Versailles in the postseason.
Ethan Davis is the team’s only sophomore and is new to high school swim this year. In addition, Versailles has five freshmen swimmers including Jack Detrick, Jonathen Nelson, Owen Schultz, Ryan Subler and Jarett Petitjean.
The Tigers look forward to seeing what their new swimmers accomplish this year. With the larger numbers, Versailles has some depth to work with, which will be important for the team when it comes to scoring extra points at invitationals.
Last year the boys team won the Coldwater Cavalier Invitational, the unofficial Midwest Athletic Conference meet, and they hope to repeat this win again this year as well.
The boys are coached by head swim coach Mark Travis.
