Versailles moves up in AP state football rankings

COLUMBUS – The Versailles football team moved up three spots this week to No. 15 in the Associated Press’ Division V state rankings.

Versailles received 18 points in this week’s poll to move up to No. 15 in the state rankings. The Tigers are tied with Canton Central Catholic.

Ahead of Versailles in the second weekly Division V rankings of the 2015 season are Coldwater, Columbiana Crestview, Wheelersburg, Chillicothe Zane Trace, Cadiz Harrison Central, Millbury Lake, Milan Edison, Doylestown Chippewa, Brookville, Swanton, Apple Creek Waynedale, St. Bernard Roger Bacon, Magnolia Sandy Valley and Creston Norwayne.

Versailles moved ahead of Johnstown Northridge, London Madison Plains and Gates Mills Hawken this week. Creston Norwayne was the only team to jump ahead of the Versailles.

Versailles is the lone Darke County team ranked in the AP football poll this season.

A number of other schools with local connections are ranked this week. Wayne from the Greater Western Ohio Conference is ranked No. 2 in Division I, Trotwood-Madison from the GWOC is ranked No. 9 in Division III, Coldwater from the Midwest Athletic Conference is ranked No. 1 in Division V, Marion Local from the MAC is ranked No. 1 in Division VI, St. Henry from the MAC is ranked No. 11 in Division VI, Fort Recovery from the MAC is ranked No. 3 in Division VII, and Minster from the MAC is ranked No. 8 in Division VII. Beavercreek and Miamisburg from the GWOC fell out of the rankings this week.
