Greenville girls tennis team beats Sidney in GWOC match

SIDNEY – The Greenville girls tennis team swept Sidney 5-0 in a Greater Western Ohio Conference match on Tuesday in Sidney.

In first singles Greenville’s Anja Mertel swept Desire Newton 6-0, 6-0. At second singles the Lady Wave’s Anna Manges swept Hannah Brown. In third singles the Wave’s Larisa Schmitmeyer beat Madison Frank 6-1, 6-4.

In first doubles Greenville’s Neeps Kaur and Mallory Rich swept Marie Butts and Kathryn Saunders 6-0, 6-0. In second doubles the Wave’s Molly Hunt and Casey Malott swept Auanna Edens and Naomi Riegel 6-0, 6-0.

Greenville improved to 11-8 overall and 2-2 in the GWOC North with the win while Sidney fell to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the division.

In junior varsity action Chloe Graves, Hannah Gulley and Marabelle Lance all won singles matches. Graves and Jordyn Warren won a doubles match.

Greenville will play in the GWOC Silver Flight tournament beginning at 8 a.m. Friday at Troy. The Lady Wave play their final regular season match at 2 p.m. Saturday at home vs. Lebanon.
