Darke County Foundation’s SUNshine 5K raises $12,000 for charities

GREENVILLE – The Darke County Foundation hosted its annual SUNshine 5K on Saturday in the Greenville City Park. More than 400 people registered for the event, which raised more than $12,000 for local non-profit organizations.

Proceeds benefited Bunco for Breast Cancer, Darke County Special Olympics, DeColores Montessori School, Mandy Green Fund, Greenville High School Vocal Music Boosters, Next Step Ministries and St. Mary’s School.

Following the run/walk, participants enjoyed more than 1,000 homemade cookies, fruit, drinks and a large selection of door prizes.

The SUNshine 5K is part of the Darke County Wellness Challenge and will occur again next year in September.

The Darke County Foundation thanked its lead sponsors, Reid Health, Orthopedic Associates of Southwest Ohio, Premier Health and Wayne HealthCare.

Top male finishers were Rory Helms, 18:34; Eric Bontrager, 19:05; Barry Martens, 20:08. Top female finishers were Carolyn Iddings, 22:15; Nicole Andreas, 22:49, Kara Warren, 22:51.
