Tigers’ Ording named All-Ohio

Versailles senior Elizabeth Ording was recently named to the All-Ohio second team in Division III. It’s the third year in a row the Tigers have had a player recognized as All-State.

For the season thus far, Ording, a fourth-year varsity player, has totaled 353 kills, 33 aces and 71 blocks among some other statistics, and has led her team back to the brink of a second straight Division III state championship. The Tigers (18-10) will play Zoarville Tuscarawas Valley in the D-III state semifinals at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Wright State University Nutter Center. If they win, they will return to the Nutter Center on Saturday for a 1 p.m. state championship battle with the Defiance Tinora-Independence winner.

“It is a very well-deserved honor,” Versailles coach Kenzie Bruggeman said. “She has worked her tail off ever since she was a freshman, and now she is just a very seasoned player that is hands down one of our main leaders on the court. We go to her in almost every crucial situation knowing that she is going to bring some positives to the court and a lot of the times get us the kill.”

Ording and teammate Lindsey Winner, a junior, also received recognition in District 9 by being selected to the Division III first team.

Several other Darke County volleyball players were also recognized by District 9.

In Division II, Greenville seniors Shelby Herrmann and Brooke Stachler were named second team and honorable mention respectively. In Division III, Arcanum junior Camille Pohl was named to the first team, freshman Taylor Gray was named to the second team and junior Audrey Heiser received honorable mention. In Division IV, Franklin-Monroe’s Corina Conley, Brigette Filbrun and Kennedy Morris, and Tri-Village’s Maddie Downing all received recognition. Conley was named to the first team, Filbrun to the second team and Morris and Downing each received honorable mention.

Several area seniors are also slated to play in the District 9 Volleyball Senior All-Star game, which is set for tonight at Troy High School. Awards will be given out beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the matches to follow. Among those seniors from Darke County are Franklin-Monroe’s Kennedy Morris and Brigette Filbrun, Greenville’s Shelby Herrmann, Arcanum’s Macey Hartmann and Versailles’ Elizabeth Ording and Kelsey Custenborder.
