Arcanum wrestling team wins pair of matches

ARCANUM- The Arcanum wrestling team played host to the squads from National Trail, Tri-County North and Twin Valley South Tuesday evening.

The format was set up so that the Trojans would face an opening match against the Panthers from Twin Valley South and wrap up the evening against the Trail Blazers of National Trail.

The first event of the night matched Arcanum and Twin Valley South. The Trojans would best the Panthers 27-24. Arcanum got a win in overtime by Ethin Hoffman in the 120 pound class. Matt Todd pinned his opponent at the 2:50 mark of the match of the 152 pound classification. Devin Keckler, Christian Layman and Michael Johnson all won by forfeits. Ethan Baker won by pin in an exhibition match.

The second round of the evening saw Arcanum and National Trail opposing each other. The Trojans would prevail 24-12. Ethin Hoffman pinned his man 3:15 into his 120 pound match. In the most exciting match of the evening Devin Keckler got the fall with just four seconds remaining on the clock in the 138 pound weight class. Christian Layman also would get a pin 3:25 into his 170 pound match. Dallas Law won in 1:01 of a heavyweight exhibition match.

“We’re happy tonight,” coaches Rick Stone and Jared Beatty said. “We’ve got all first and second year kids. We’re heading in the right direction. We’re a young team. It was a good night, good to pick up wins against conference teams. That will help us at the end of the season.”

Arcanum’s next action will be Saturday at the Versailles Invitational.
