ANSONIA — Like most schools in the county, Ansonia Local will begin the 2015-16 school year on Sept. 1.

Superintendent Jim Atchley reported that an open house is scheduled for all students and their parents on Aug. 31 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The superintendent said this year, Ansonia will be offering two College Credit Plus classes next year for English.

Welcomed this year are eight new teachers — Ashley Henry, Stacy Lee, Angie Drees, Adam Hall, Emily Williams, Mandy Wood and Tyler Studebaker.

Henry is a graduate of Wright State University (WSU) with a bachelor of science in middle childhood education. She completed her student teaching at Ansonia Elementary, and will be teaching fourth grade.

Lee will be joining the staff as a third-grade teacher. She is coming to Ansonia from Greenville City Schools where she taught for 17 years. She has her bachelor of science in elementary education from WSU. Lee has a master’s degree in the art of teaching from Marygrove College, and has much experience in literacy collaborative.

Drees will be a classroom teacher/instructional aide. She is a graduate of WSU with a bachelor of science in education. Previously, she taught two years at Bradford Elementary.

Hall, a graduate of Ansonia Local Schools and Defiance College, has a bachelor of science in social studies. He will be the high school social studies teacher, and will also be assisting the football program this fall.

Williams is a graduate of Murray State University with a bachelor of science in agriculture. She previously had taught at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center as an animal health technologist instructor, Williams served last year as an instructional aide at Ansonia Junior/Senior High, and will now be teaching vocational agriculture for one-half day, in addition to continuing as instructional aide for the remainder of the day.

Wood, another WSU graduate, earned her bachelor of science in elementary educational and master’s degrees in education. She joins Ansonia Elementary after serving 15 years as an elementary teacher at Tipp City Schools. Wood will be teaching sixth-grade language arts.

A Ball State University graduate, Studebaker will be an instructional aide and seventh-grade health teacher.

The superintendent said the breakfast program will be available the week of Sept. 8. Students will have the opportunity to purchase breakfast before school. The breakfast will cost $1.25 with free/reduced prices available for students who qualify.

The lunch prices will be: $2.10 ($10.50 for a full week) for grades PK – 4; $2.20 ($11 for a full week) for grades 5 – 12; $2.60 for adults; $.40 for milk; and $1.65 for ala carte sandwich.

“If you have any concerns about what your child purchases on a daily basis, please call Christy Garrett and ask for a lunch report,” he said.

Kindergarten students and parents will be notified individually regarding bus number and time schedule.
