Sales tax holiday this weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) encourages families to take advantage of Ohio’s first Sales Tax Holiday from August 7-9 (this weekend). The Sales Tax Holiday was created following the passage of Senate legislation in 2014 to help families save during the back-to-school shopping season.

Ohio consumers will enjoy an exemption from paying sales tax on all clothing and footwear up to $75 per item and certain school supplies and instructional materials up to $20 per item.

“As the father of two school-age children, I know how expensive it can be to prepare them to return to school in August,” said Faber, a cosponsor of the legislation that established the Sales Tax Holiday. “The Sales Tax Holiday will lighten the financial burden on Ohio families while stimulating the local economy.”

Senate Bill 243, introduced in 2013 and signed into law in December 2014, introduces the Sales Tax Holiday to Ohio for the first time this year.
