Wave host alumni soccer games

GREENVILLE –The alumni games to benefit Greenville Soccer were alive and kicking last week at Harmon Field.

The first match was the present day girls squad versus the alumni from 1987 on. The match was non-stop action with two 40-minute halves with a continuous clock on going. The final tally was 5 for the Lady Wave and the alumni 2.

“We are definitely looking to improve on our 0-14-1 record from last year,” Greenville girls soccer coach Steve Shepard said. “We have scrimmages coming up with on against Coldwater on Monday night and on Aug. 26 open up officially at Graham. Our squad only lost one senior, and we have groups of girls who were able to wear the alumni down and in the process not take it too seriously. We had 30 kids to come out, but no club players, which hurts. Our conference is always good in the GWOC, but we plan to surprise people by the end of the year.”

Seniors on this year’s 2015 edition are Addie Hart, Ashton Kester, Caitlin Beasecker, Chelsea Stout, Jena Snyder, Kelsey Crandall, Keenah Ellis, Meghan Bright, Moreah Donthier, Sara Wenning and Shyanne Byers. Juniors on the squad are Brittany Weyrick, Genesis Malin, Hayley Burns, Katelynn Stock, Kayla Arnold, Lessie Cable, Mickayla Cline, Natalie House, Paige Burns and Raven Mote. Sophomores on the squad are Allie Null, Isabel Elliott, Jessica Tanner, Katelyn Avore, Maddie Shephard and Madison Baker. Freshmen on the squad are Hunter Mote and Kaitlyn Marker. The assistant coaches are Samantha Grim, Matt Baker and Jason Arnold.

“We have done the alumni game as a get together for the last 11 years,” Greenville boys soccer coach Brent DeVoss said. “This is a fun activity for the players and a fundraiser for us. There is no age limit on the alumni as we have had alumni from 1986 on.

“The alumni took care of us tonight, 4-2. The alumni were led by Austin List, who played four years at

Wright State and is the all-time assist leader at Greenville High School. The Green Wave alumni have won seven of the last 11 years, and they will get another star on their shirt. Tannier Reed and Jack

Garland scored our only goals, but we helped them out with a penalty kick.”

Players for this varsity Squad are Seth Conway, Tannier Reed, Jordan Ernst, A.J. Frens, Dalton Walls, Jack Garland, Danny Suter, Joe Suter, Addison Ernst, Scott Densman, Josh Smith, Austin Grote, Dylan Snyder, Folger Pyles, Ethan Saylor, Tanni Mancillas, Clayton Herron, Austin Violet, Mac Kirk and Kody Purvis.
