Hope to see you at the fair

There may not be any chickens crossing the road to the Great Darke County this year – but that won’t stop us from having some fun.

The 159th year of our county’s fair begins Friday and runs through Saturday, Aug. 29.

The Daily Advocate’s own chicken mascot – Mac “The Scrambler” Eggwhite will be roaming the fairground looking to take selfies with fair-goers as he hands out giveaways during special times and days.

With pre-fair judging held recently, hundreds of 4-H and junior fair members have been busy putting the final touches on their projects. From sewing and cooking, to cake decorating and photography – as well as the livestock projects – kids have researched, planned, created, and completed their displays for the fair. And it’s always worth taking the time to visit their booths to see the end results.

Adults also have been busy honing their talents in gardening, flower arranging and baking, to name but a few categories that will be featured and judged.

Kudos go out in advance to Fair Manager Daryl Riffle and the Darke County Agricultural Society and their crews for working hard to get the fairgrounds ready for the annual summer event.

We at your local hometown newspaper, The Daily Advocate, LOVE the county fair! We’ll be out there in support of our 4-H kids taking photos.

Watch throughout the week for daily Great Darke County Fair coverage, photos and video in the newspaper, on our website dailyadvocate.com and on Facebook pages Advocate360 and Darke County Sports.

Be sure to pick up your copy of The Daily Advocate on Sept. 18, when we will have a special edition with fair results and photos of the winners.

Hope to see you at the 2015 Great Darke County Fair!
