The second annual Union City Arts Festival is opening Friday at 10 a.m.
There is no fee to the festival; everything is open to the public except for two evening concerts at the Main State in Artisan Park beginning at 6 p.m. which will require a ticket.
The festival is located at the corner of Howard and Pearl at the Artisan Park in downtown Union City, Indiana. Parking will be west of the Art Depot with entry from Walnut Street (Indiana side). Overflow parking will be on the streets of Union City. Handicapped parking is available, drive north on Walnut Street. to Oak Street, turn right (east) on Oak and then right into the alley, handicapped parking will be designated from there. Golf carts will be available to people needing assistance.
Friday at 8 a.m., a Union City Paint Out will begin, all artists are invited to attend. Cost is $20 per person (cash only). The works will be judged and the winner collects all fees paid. Meet Carol Strock-Wasson at her studio at 324 W. Oak St., downtown Union City and let the Paint Out begin.
Food vendors will be located at Artisan Park on Pearl Street. A list of restaurants locally will be available at the information tent
Artists will be located in store front windows, Plein air paint outs will be all over town both days. The paint out is open to all artists. A coffee and art will be offered (all supplies included); Katie Lee Jones will be doing a photography shoot; an exhibit of currently published work in Patterns Magazine and a makeup demonstration.
Artists will have work for sale; vendors will be located between the Art Depot extending through Artisan Park just north of the railroad tracks. An art exhibit at the Art Depot will feature the work of college age art students and recent graduates. The gallery will be open displaying artwork throughout the festival from 10 a.m. on both days. There is no fee to visit the gallery at any time.
Friday activities include: The Art of Table Setting, Culinary Demonstrations Kitchenaid; Todd Keys from Indianapolis demonstrating his famous Cheesecake Pops, Ghyslain Chocolatier Tower, all on Friday at 103 N. Columbia St. Juried Art show, Black and White Photo Essay, Lawrence Sexton Plein Air Painting, Carol Sexton stone carving, Carol Strock-Wasson Quick Draw Demonstration, Judy Brewer Art demo, Rochelle Martin’s “Fiercest Light,” Ashley Austerman Coffee and Canvas; Elizabeth Miller and Silus Massoff – Mural Painting.
Saturday activities are Ronald McDonald; The Hoosier Experience; Make-up/Hair/Photography demo by Katie Lee Jones, Rochelle Martins Fiercest Light; Ashley Austerman Coffee and Canvas, Josh Shepherd – Bronze Casting Sculpture Demonstration; Carol Strock-Wasson installation; Tracy Burns – Hooked rug demo; “Ghouliano” Children’s Storyteller; face painting; children’s photos; canvas and cookies for children and more.
Friday evening music requiring a ticket includes “Right Way to Nowhere” 6 to 8 p.m. and John Fields St. Right (Blues). Saturday music begins at 1 p.m. with “Moments Notice;” Dyslexic Funk” “Divine Vision;” and “Kings Road Quartet.” Saturday evening music will require tickets to “Password Reset” featuring Roxie (Rafaela) followed by Rick Derringer, formerly of the McCoys, who recorded “Hang On Sloopy,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of that recording.
A few notes, no coolers or blankets will be permitted for entry to the concerts. The general admission tickets can be purchased for $10 at the gate.
You are invited to join the Preservation Society at 207 E. Elm St., Union City, Ohio, on both evenings 4 to 8 p.m. to sit down, enjoy a relaxing break with a glass of wine and plate of cheese and crackers. Enjoy listening to some old time music on the 1970s record player. There will be a small fee for wine and cheese trays.
Watch for artists throughout the town, visit the merchants where many will be providing a demonstration. Stroll through historic downtown Union City and see that it is now a Revitalizing Town!
