VANDALIA – The Butler Aviators came into Friday night’s game versus Greenville with the opportunity to get control of the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division race and take a huge step toward playoff eligibility.

The Aviators accomplished both by scoring the game’s final 21 points to claim a 34-20 win over the visiting Green Wave.

The win lifted Butler to 6-2 overall and gave the Aviators control of their own destiny in the GWOC North at 3-0. A win Friday over Troy would guarantee Butler of at least a share of the league championship.

Greenville fell to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the GWOC North.

Butler wasted no time in putting points on the board as Chandler Craine connected with Treylann Sanders for a 36-yard touchdown strike just 1:02 into the contest.

Greenville answered early in the second period with a 3-yard sore from Codi Byrd. The extra point failed, and Butler maintained a lead, 7-6.

Craine handed off to Nic Martin with 2:21 before half to give Butler a 13-6 lead, but Greenville responded with a 10-play, 65-yard scoring drive that took just 1:32 capped off by an 11-yard run by quarterback Clay Guillozet to tie the game at 13-13 at the half.

Greenville took the lead midway through the third quarter as Guillozet found Justin Brown for a 66-yard scoring strike. After a kick by Jordan Ernst the Green Wave led 20-13.

They wouldn’t score again.

Nic Martin scored two touchdowns for the Aviators in the third quarter, and Logan Flatt gave Butler its final margin with a 6-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Butler out-gained Greenville with 381 yards of total offense compared to 348 for the Wave.

Guillozet completed 17-of-34 passes for 229 yards with three interceptions while leading Greenville in rushing yards with 85 yards on 14 carries. Craine completed 16-of-28 passes for Butler for 210 yards with two picks.

Nic Martin gained 125 yards on 21 carries for the Aviators.

Noah Ballard, John Anderson and Dustin Lewis all had interceptions for Butler.
