WINCHESTER, Ind. – Two children were airlighted Friday evening with serious injuries after the van they were traveling in was involved in a head-on accident.

On Friday, Oct. 16 at approximately 5:07 p.m. the Randolph County 911 Center received a report of a vehicle accident with injuries. Randolph County Sheriff deputies responded to the scene along with Farmland Fire, Farmland Police Department, Parker City Fire, White River Rescue, Randolph County EMS, Winchester EMS and Delaware County FMS. Off-duty state police officers and a state police accident reconstruction officer was also on the accident scene.

Upon completion of the investigation it was determined that the 1998 Ford Windstar driven by Heather Arnold, 34, of Winchester, Indiana was westbound on State Road 32 near the intersection of County Road 900 W when a 2002 Cadillac driven by Thomas Hawkins, 66, of Muncie, Indiana was eastbound on State Route 32 attempted to make a left hand turn (north) into the path of the van driven by Arnold.

Arnolds’ vehicle struck the Cadillac in a head-on collision. Arnold had three children in her vehicle; an 11-year-old male in the front passenger seat was transported by lifeline to Riley Hospital with serious injuries; in the rear driver side seat an 8-year-old female was also transported by lifeline to Riley with serious injuries. A 10-year-old female sitting in the rear passenger side of the vehicle was transported to Ball Memorial along with Arnold with non-life threatening injuries.

Hawkins was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital along with front passenger Alice Garrett, 49, and a 10-year-old female sitting in the rear passenger side of the vehicle, all three subjects had non-life threatening injuries.
