Union City News: Christmas shop locally

0

As the holiday season continues, merchants continue to offer that personalized service you can only get in a small community. This week we take a look at what you can buy and how easy it is to do your Christmas shopping locally.

A stop at the 209 – located at 209 N. Columbia St., is a store that was overlooked in last week’s article. The owner, Barb Landess-Gentry, offers a wide variety of clothing and fun articles including Christmas decorations in her consignment store. It is a great place to shop, hurry because she closes at the end of the year until her re-opening in the spring. A small bouquet for a neighbor could be purchased at Jo’s Corner Florist. Christmas cards, ornaments, and wrapping from the Corner Cupboard – a Hallmark Store. At the Christian Bookstore you can find the right gift in CD’s, books, and beautiful scarves, jewelry and more. At My Favorite Flowers I will order a custom gift basket for another neighbor and maybe buy some delicious jams from there as well. At the five antique shops you can always find a bargain or unique gift for someone special. Carol Strock-Wasson still has many beautiful paintings for sale in her gallery. Gift cards are always great and each of these stores offers those as an alternative. Just mentioning a few this week, because I may miss one, this list is not all inclusive of what Union City has to offer.

Always promoting hometown shopping, this week I needed a battery for my cordless phone in our home, and I did not have to leave town, Didier Hardware had just what I needed. They also have a really great lighting gadget you can buy to shine a design and colors on your house, garage, or barn. Fun things you can find in our own backyard.

To keep in the Christmas spirit, a drive through Harter Park will continue through the end of the year. You won’t be disappointed in anything here in town, the arts, antiques, consignment, drug store, and more. The Artisan Park in downtown Union City is decorated beautifully with lights and other decorations too.

The Art Hub will be hosting after hours Saturday evening from 5-8 is offering free gift wrapping with any purchase. Some jewelry is 10 percent off and some artwork is 40 percent off. More in store specials, so check it out, plus snacks and goodies. Always a great place to meet your friend, and visit a while. Visiting and window shopping are always encouraged. Gift certificates are also available.

So drive over or walk downtown, we encourage and welcome you. If you are interested in opening a business in downtown Union City, please feel free to contact me and I will lead you in the right direction. Many things are happening here and it is exciting to live in a small town, where everybody knows your name, well that is if we don’t forget.

Plenty to do in Union City. Union City Redefined!
